Hi David, here are some criteria for your choice:
– tablets are better if you need to move the person in a wheelchair for example, but the screen is smaller and it is more difficult to select cells in a smaller device
– laptop is a good compromise: it is both portable, can be used for someone lying in a bed (you need a bed table to support the laptop, such as the tables used for having lunch in the bed)
– desktop is a good solution if you already have a desktop; the advantage is the big screen, but you will need a rather big support to hold the screen if the person is lying in a bed. Finally, it will also depend on the hardware you already own. Please remember that you will need a USB 3.0 to use Tobii EyeX or The Eye Tribe eye trackers; for tablets or laptops, it is a prerequisite, for desktops you can add USB 3.0 PCI cards (20 to 30€) if you don’t have USB 3.0 already.
Hope it helps
PierreJanuary 5, 2015 at 9:19 pm #6929Hi David,
You can obtain this result, you need to create a main grid to be launched at start-up (you select the setting ‘start grid automatically’ in the settings screen).
To create this grid, you may use the grid editor with cells activating the grids you would like to launch.
Hope it helps
PierreJanuary 5, 2015 at 9:13 pm #6926Hi David, currently eye tracking activation is performed in Gazespeaker with dwelling (looking at the same cell during a period of time), which is easier to use than blinking I think: you can adjust dwelling settings (duration of each phase : pre-selection, selection, …) to your needs in the Settings screen.
November 18, 2014 at 9:38 pm #6721Katherine, it should be released by the end of November.
Kind regards
PierreNovember 17, 2014 at 9:19 pm #6719Hello Katherine,
It is currently not possible to transfer an email. We will add this feature in a future release.
Best regards
PierreNovember 14, 2014 at 9:18 pm #6717Hello Nita,
For Google, Wikipedia and Amazon, there is a specific injection of the text written in the keyboard in the browser, in order to fill the search field. But for other types of fields, currently it is not implemented yet. We will try to find a solution (could be possible, but it is not easy I think).

November 13, 2014 at 9:28 pm #6715Hi Peter,
Yes currently you must start the grid with the mouse, because the home page is also the entry point to access the settings and other screens which only work with the mouse. We will try to find a way to start the grid automatically in the home page (either with a specific setting or with a timer): this could be added in the next release.

November 13, 2014 at 9:24 pm #6714Hi Rasmus,
Yes you are right the 0 is missing ! we’ll modify the grid for the next version
(in the mean time, if you need to use the calculator, you can modify the grid with the grid editor)
November 7, 2014 at 10:39 pm #6706Hi Nita,
Yes, pictures and icons are located in the folders : …/documents/gazespeaker/media/images/ …
You may add your own images in an existing directory or create a new one and specify this directory in the grid you want to modify or create (media directory of the grid)
We will add an “import images” button in the future releases in order to facilitate this process.
Best regards
PierreOctober 3, 2014 at 7:48 pm #6684Hi Enrique,
To use the Eye Tribe with Gazespeaker, the operating mode I found the most reliable is the following:
0. start your computer
1. launch the EyeTribe UI, which will itself launch the EyeTribe Server
2. in the EyeTribe UI, launch the calibration (9 points is usually fine), you should obtain a calibration result with 5 stars.
3. CLOSE the EyeTribe UI (it is not necessary to run Gazespeaker and would keep the leds on even when the gazespeaker is not active): the leds of the EyeTribe tracker should be off
4. start the Gazespeaker program (click on the icon on the desktop): the leds of the EyeTribe should then be activated (visible and red)
5. on the home page of the Gazespeaker, you should see your eyes on the eyetracker window (it should be light green with an image of your eyes if the eyetracker works correctly; if not, this window remains white and an error message may appear)
6. DO NOT use the double calibration in Gazespeaker (it is only useful for children with special disabilities, and is not useful for adults or in ALS). If you used this double calibration, you can cancel it : go to the double calibration screen, click on the reset button (0)
7. When you exit from the gazespeaker program at the end of your session, the leds of the Eyetribe should be off. When you relaunch the program, the leds will be lighted again.
Currently, the EyeTribe doesn’t store the calibration, so when you restart your computer, you need to perform the calibration in step 1 and 2 again (Martin from the EyeTribe told me that this feature should be implemented in a future version of the driver).
Avoid to connect/disconnect the EyeTribe tracker (especially do not disconnect it at the level of the eye tracker, because the connexion at this level may be physically damaged). I never had to connect/reconnect the EyeTRibe tracker until now with the operating mode described above and I have used it hundreds of times since the beginning of this year.
Hope it helps

September 22, 2014 at 7:59 am #6568Dear Enrique,
I am sorry to hear you had a problem in launching the program. I hope we will solve it easily so you can use it with your mother very soon.
What is your configuration ? (operating system version, processor and screen resolution)
There is a log in the folder Documents/Gazespeaker/logs called log.txt
Could you please open it (it opens automatically with the notepad editor) check if there is an error recorded in this file ? You may send it to our contact email: postmaster@gazespeaker.orgbest regards
